GoPro Launches Mission 1 Cinematic 8K Camera

GoPro has just unveiled its most powerful action camera yet — the Mission 1 Pro. Announced on April 14, 2026, this new flagship model marks a big leap forward with professional-grade features that will appeal to both creators and extreme sports enthusiasts.

At the heart of the Mission 1 Pro is a large 1-inch 50MP sensor — significantly bigger than previous GoPro models and competitors. This sensor delivers excellent low-light performance, better dynamic range, and sharper details. You can shoot stunning 50MP photos in RAW format and enjoy smooth, high-resolution video.

On the video side, the camera supports 8K60 recording in 16:9 aspect ratio. It also offers 8K Open Gate (4:3) at 30fps and 4K240 for ultra-smooth slow-motion footage. For extreme slow-mo, it can go up to 1080p960, giving you up to 32x slowdown. The new GP3 processor ensures better heat management and efficiency, allowing the camera to keep running even in demanding conditions.

A major highlight is the 10-bit GP-Log2 profile with LUTs, along with HLG HDR support. These give filmmakers and color graders much more flexibility in post-production. The camera also includes full manual controls, timecode sync, subject tracking, and smart modes for underwater diving or low-light shooting.

Battery life is impressive thanks to the new Enduro 2 battery. GoPro claims up to 5+ hours of recording in Full HD, and solid runtime even at higher resolutions. The camera is waterproof up to 66 feet (20 meters) without a case, and up to 196 feet with the optional dive case.

Other useful features include a 2.59-inch rear OLED screen, a front display, four microphones, Bluetooth 5.3, and raised buttons that are easy to use with gloves. It records to a microSD card and comes with a hydrophobic lens coating for clearer shots in wet conditions.

Pre-orders for the GoPro Mission 1 Pro begin on May 21, 2026, with general availability starting May 28, 2026. Pricing has not been announced yet and will be revealed closer to the pre-order date. A Grip Edition and other variants (including an ILS model with interchangeable lenses) will also be available later.

With its combination of 8K resolution, pro-level color science, long battery life, and rugged design, the Mission 1 Pro looks set to raise the bar in the action camera segment.
